Oklahoma City Thunder Make Blockbuster Trade Ahead of NBA Draft

Oklahoma City, June 20, 2024 — The Oklahoma City Thunder have shaken up the NBA landscape with a major trade just days before the 2024 NBA Draft. According to league sources, the Thunder have acquired All-Star forward Zion Williamson from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for a package including Josh Giddey, Lu Dort, and multiple future first-round picks.

The move signals Oklahoma City’s aggressive push to build around MVP finalist Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rising star Chet Holmgren. Williamson, a former No. 1 overall pick, brings elite athleticism and scoring to a Thunder squad that surprised the league with a 55-win season and a deep playoff run.

'We’re thrilled to add a player of Zion’s caliber to our core,' said Thunder GM Sam Presti. 'His ability to dominate in the paint and his playoff experience align perfectly with our timeline.'

Analysts speculate that the Thunder, who still hold a treasure trove of future draft assets, may not be done dealing. Rumors suggest they could also pursue a veteran shooter to bolster their lineup.
