They add a lot of dimension to the quilt and even though they might be a bit confusing to begin with, once you get the hang of it, they are super simple. This is the 3-D pinwheel quilt block. The pinwheel has a bit of a twist though making it a bit more 3-d than others I have seen.
If you're unsure about how to sew 3D pinwheels, here are a few brief instructions. 3D Pinwheel Tutorial For one block, you need 4 squares for the background and 4 squares for the pinwheel. Fold the pinwheel fabric squares in half diagonally as shown below and pin. Place the folded piece onto the background square.
With this economically-priced pattern, you simply take 3, one-yard cuts of fabric plus a few hours and make a beautiful quilt top with binding and borders. The finished size of this quilt is 46.5 x 58.5 inches.
