Falling chairs is icing on the cake. A new Snowgums is crucial to Thredbo's continued success. Mt P 6 isn't crucial to Perisher, and they've still done more work towards it than Thredbo's done towards the Snowgums. It's not like there's a lack of money or incentive to build it because summer and winter depends on it - just get on with it already. We are several years behind schedule. The extension appears to have entirely Mueller too.. There were many operating difficulties with the lift including derailings and an occasion in the cable lost tension causing people to fall into the snow. Later the towers and sheaves on the upper section were later replaced with Riblet components due to what was described as 'technical issues'. Not surprisingly Thredbo never bought another Mueller lift and instead they installed two more Riblet lifts, Ramshead and Merrits double chairs. Chairs approaching the funnel at the entrance to the unload station at an angle outside tolerance. Chair arm strikes object, twists chair and rotation force detaches the chair. One of the deathbarrel incidents related to a tower mod at the time of the lift install. The T-piece at the top of the tower was raised due to a design error. This mean the chair are struck part of the tower and rotated off the cable. I believe the later has been rectified. The risk of further incident managed by stopping the chairs at much lower wind speeds now. In all cases the chairs were never at risk of coming off at random anywhere along the line.
