I use Github to deploy all of my projects and to contribute to projects. But with the growth of microsoft and since github is closed source. I'd prefer something open source.

Although, one note i should mention, some of my websites, like andrewgx.site / asop.asia are closed sourced. Why? well I write messy code and i dont want to deal with env files just yet.

What's Codeberg?

Codeberg is a opensource first git hosting provider, it is fully focused on hosting open source projects and supporting the community, as mentioned in their website.

Codeberg is also technically a warp of Forgejo but it have it's own niche and the UI is pretty different, as well as some of the features.

Why Codeberg?

I am choosing codeberg over any git provider as they have strong security and their model is deemed to last for long. Codeberg is also a privacy first, community first, open source first, made by a non-profit. Codeberg is also 100% non commerical. I also want to separate my work and my personal projects - which means i will host all my commerical / non opensource projects on my github while hosting all my personal / non commerical projects on codeberg.

Consideration

  1. github offers CI/CD, github pages, and other useful features.
  2. github have much larger userbase / projects
  3. Codeberg is often unstable

Yes, I have to pretty much agree with everyone, github is better, but it is not "really" community supported. I pretty much love and will use everything that is community support - even if it is unstable. Github's userbase, which is one of the biggest downside for me, if i were to host my personal projects on codeberg, i may have to make a cloned repo on github - which defeats the point of me switching to codeberg.

Overall, I still need some time to think about it, i used to host all my stuff / projects on bitbucket, but their UI look shitty and it's just slow in general.
Overall I am still thinking about it, if I did switch to codeberg, i will write a notice in my readme.md on my github profile.
