I've been using the Dominant strings for quite some time now and have always been impressed with the quality of the sound they produce. Though not much better than a low intermediate player, even I can notice the difference as opposed to a cheaper set. If you're a beginner, you'll do yourself a huge favor when you buy these strings over cheaper products. Playing the fiddle is hard enough without making it tougher because you're using cheap strings that produce a tinny screechy sound. An added benefit is that these strings seem to stay in tune forever. I almost never have to tune them. Again, an added benefit because it's easier to get the correct intonation when you know your strings aren't constantly coming out of tune.
These are great strings which are definitely a step up from the Prelude strings which came on my (rather inexpensive) violin. The difference in tone is slight, but these seem to have a warmer sound than the Prelude strings. Perhaps the biggest difference for me, though, was the feel. These are a lot more flexible than the steel strings my violin came with. This seems to make the strings more forgiving (minute variations in pitch aren't so ear-splittingly obvious) and it also allows for a great deal more expression. Highly recommended.

Bought a set of these in April 2020. The A string at around the D note started unraveling in July 2020. I'm beyond 30 day return policy and seller won't replace the string because he says life of the strings is only 2 to 3 months, depending on how often the instrument is played. I understand about the sound of the string diminishing after 2 or 3 months, but I would not expect the string to unwind at the fingerboard. My daughter is only 11 years old with not much meat on her bones and plays about 30 minutes a day, so it's not hard core, heavy duty usage. Unsatisfied with product and with seller experience. Update 8/15/20: we brought the violin to the music store we bought it from, and they confirmed that the violin does have the signs of what typically happens with teens, and that is sweat from the fingers which tend to be more acidic than usual at this age. Other strings are also beginning to discolor, and the fingerboard has a white streak where the string touches it, also signs of sweaty fingers. Plan now is to wash hands with soap before playing. So I take back my review about the life of the string with apologies. I'm still debating whether to take back the review about the seller though, so TBD on that piece. Thanks.

La verdad no le di un mal uso a las cuerdas y la cuerda de La se empezó a deshacer, estuve viendo la devolución y no es muy conveniente porque tarda 1 mes y además puede que no te regresen tu dinero completo. No digo que sean malas las cuerdas o que no las compres pero si me decepcionó la experiencia que yo tuve, eso si suenan muy bien las cuerdas pero una lástima por la poca durabilidad que tendré con estas cuerdas dominant.

We think we can safely say that Thomastik's Dominant Violin strings are the world's most popular strings. They're the holdover, mainstay, 'Mr. Dependable' violin string. As the old saying goes: “If it ain't broke…don't fix it!"
The Dominant violin strings come in 3 gauges: Weich (which means 'light'), medium, and stark (heavy). They are made with a nylon core and come with several different choices for E strings. Even still, many prefer to order a different E (like a Gold Label E ). The Gold plated E looks and feels like a steel E, but sounds warmer than one. The Aluminum E is a wound string, a tad bit fatter, but warmer than any of the other E strings (of the Dominant brand. In general (with violin strings) players tend to prefer ordering a Silver D as opposed to a regular D. The Silver will be a tad thinner gauge and more responsive. If you are new to Dominants we recommend just a medium base set. Once you have these on, you can play them in and see how you like them and then later on, with your next set, change a string or two to accommodate your specific style of playing preferences and your violin.
