Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to mark the centennial of the company. Made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure featuring never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

It's a great present to welcome a new owner into their luxurious vehicle.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a brand that takes its aesthetics seriously. It's evident in the exact positioning of its quilting, the selection of leather from the by-products of cattle, timber from forests that are sustainably managed and the creative patterns on its levers. When you drive by a car like the Continental GT W12, its beautiful sculptural design is highlighted by carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top vehicle. The rear of the tonneau in the Continental GT, for example included the biggest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, quality and attention to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The company continues to push boundaries by utilizing the most advanced technology and craftsmanship, including the introduction of an instrument cluster with digital technology with an electric tilt-opening back glass sunroof, an artisan-made docking station for Apple iPads and electrochromic smart glass that can be changed between opaque and transparent at the touch of an arrow.

A century after its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership after years of fighting with BMW was able to celebrate its centennial in 2019. The marque planned a series of special events and launches to commemorate the milestone event before pandemic planning became a priority.

Design

Bentley is a premium car manufacturer who produces extravagant and luxurious vehicles. However, even the keys make a statement. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver, and has a large B' symbol to inform everyone that you drive a Bentley. It's also engraved with the years 1919 and 2019 to mark the company's centenary.

Bentley Mulliner has redesigned and created the Mulsanne to be the ultimate Grand Touring vehicle. The rear seats were designed to give passengers unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The custom heating and ventilation system as well as the air conditioning system was created to give each passenger the ideal climate control settings.

In addition to a suite of stylishly executed styling changes and a host of elegantly executed styling changes, the Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine capable of producing 560bhp and 479lbft of torque. This incredible power is complemented with a new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark smooth ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a unique specification known as the Centenary Specification for cars that were built in 2019. The cabin features cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a customized Bentley keycase to complete the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key has an open button on the trunk, as well as a button which starts the car. The key also has a switch for turning on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors while parking in a tight space. This feature makes it easier to get into and out of your car.

The key is made of vegetable tanned leather. It takes two days to craft each one. The key is cut by hand, shaped, stitched, sealed, and then polished to create a high-end result. It is robust, compact, and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design resembles the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, but it feels more heavy and luxurious.

bentley bentayga key -A-Key is also available to prevent keyless entry theft. This device is inserted into the remote control key fob and disables it after a few minutes of inactivity, preventing thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that can unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects the values of the company that include high-quality craftsmanship engineering expertise and the latest technologies. Over 4,000 people work at its Crewe headquarters, which is responsible for the design, development, and production of Bentley cars. These workers apply the skills that have been passed through generations to current automotive technology. This is a characteristic of British manufacturing at its best.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own car. Customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and pick a set of photos ranging from scenic landscapes to sporting events that inspire them to design their own. Each time a selection is made the pattern that emerges is the model colors, style and color preferences for the custom Bentley.

The guests receive an individual key case created by hand, which contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening pathway with the owner's name or emblem when they make their way towards the vehicle.

Bentley estimates it takes approximately 500 man-hours to craft and put together the typical Mulsanne. One of the main reasons for that lengthy effort is a deliberate refusal to embrace modern tech. The Crewe factory workers do not employ a machine to place perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. Instead of letting the car's built in sensors guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spots the drivers must perform the task by hand.

During the event, Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization capabilities with one of a kind that was the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars come with a key that displays an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
