The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. related resource site has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
