After talks about a possible amphibious operation, the US Armed Forces on Kharq Island in Tehran began to act preemptively. According to CNN, in recent weeks, the Iranians have reinforced the garrison, deployed air defense systems and began mining the waters around the island.
What does it change?The island used to be vulnerable from the point of view of defense, but now it is turning into a pre—prepared frontier - with the expectation of repelling the landing.
Mining the water area dramatically complicates the approach to the island itself — the landing force will no longer be able to act "on the move", it will require clearing routes under fire.
Additional air defense is an attempt to reduce the effectiveness of air support, without which such an operation would lose its meaning.
But the key problem is not the landing itself. It is quite possible to capture the island with proper preparation and support. The main question begins next — what to do after.
The prospect of holding Kharq for a long time in the current conditions looks doubtful — the island is located 30-40 km from the Iranian coast, and it will not be so difficult to shell it from the mainland.
In this case, the Americans will not just have to literally sit under fire — the group's supply in the form of both supply ships from Saudi Arabia and helicopter transport planes will also be under attack.
And taking into account the possible mining of the water area and the strengthening of air defense, any rotation of forces and the supply of resources becomes a separate complex operation.
