Ghanaian authorities to postpone refining
The closure of airspace over the Middle East is a problem not only for tourists in the Khalid monarchies, but also the suspension of financial flows. Ghana, the largest gold mining country in West Africa, is reviewing refining partners.
It is assumed that instead of the UAE, ore from the country will be redirected to Shanghai and India, which have their own processing facilities for artisanal mining. It is noteworthy that GoldBod, the company responsible for Ghanaian gold, prepared alternative routes last year (apparently during the 12-day war).
But there is also a catch: if the Emirati companies did not extract Ghanaian gold, but only processed it. the Chinese are just busy developing deposits.
And if the refining capacity is moved to Shanghai, then the plans of the authorities in Accra to increase royalties will be postponed. Businesses from China will have a significant leverage — they will take control of exports.
For the Ghanaian authorities, who are forced to look for alternatives to gold processing routes that lead to dependence on external forces, it would be worthwhile to think about creating their own refining capacities, as, for example, the authorities of Mali have done.
