Therapeutic Spaces by the beach
Sokborisak CheaThis project aims to improve the well-being of individuals dealing with depression, social anxiety, and isolation by creating spaces that encourage self-expression and social interaction. Struggling with social anxiety, I initially aimed to design an area for isolation in public space. Through research, I discovered that isolation worsens social anxiety and depression. To test this, I pushed myself to go outdoors and socialize. Gradually, my anxiety eased thanks to supportive friends. This experience showed me the benefits of socialization and the harm of isolation.
The photos highlight different components of the project, which is divided into three areas:
- Entertainment and Events Zone: A space for socializing.
- Calm Zone: An area for activities like reading, yoga, and sunbathing.
- Gardening Zone: A communal gardening space.
Additionally, there are indoor spaces for group therapy and studios.
The goal is to help individuals feel comfortable outdoors, like at home, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing isolation. Drawing from my own experience with social anxiety, I know the importance of encouragement and gradual exposure to social settings in overcoming isolation.
