The world's highest Taekwondo expert for the disabled “I want to promote the strength of Korean disabled veterans.”

Kim Hyung-bae's Taekwondo kick

A man in his 60s, who stepped on a landmine at the barbed wire fence of the cease-fire line and lost one leg while serving in the military with a month left before being discharged, and had to rely on a prosthetic leg, has achieved the 7th degree in Taekwondo and is attempting to enter the Guinness Book of World Records. This is the story. It touches the hearts of people around you.

On the 27th, Kim Hyung -bae (65), who lives in Busan, challenged the Guinness Book of Taekwondo in the Guinness Book of Taekwondo with senior juniors attending at the Dongbu Crystal Gymnasium at 8 pm on the 24th.Mr. Kim performed kicks, poomsae, breaking, and sparring brilliantly under the watchful eye of two witnesses, including Lee Sang-jeong, a member of the Busan Taekwondo Association Senior Council (official 9th dan), and Song Hwa-soo, a member of the World Taekwondo Headquarters Kukkiwon advisory committee (official 9th dan). All of his challenges that day were recorded on video and sent to the Guinness Institute of Great Britain to be reviewed for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records.

Mr. Kim, who was promoted to 7th Dan in June 2019, began thinking about being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records after belatedly hearing that he was a disabled person and the highest Taekwondo Taekwondo expert. He lost one of his legs in the military and gave up his dream of becoming a Taekwondo instructor, but he did not give in and joined the Busan Transportation Corporation, working as a station attendant and obtaining the 4th to 7th degrees in Taekwondo. He was unable to attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records because he was busy with work, but decided that it would be difficult to maintain his previous healthy appearance as he continued to age, so he decided to take on the challenge this time.

Defeating the back kick

The biggest reason why he takes such a hard time challenging the Guinness Book of World Records is patriotism. He was a small man with a height of 160cm. When he was young, he did not want to go to the military and lost up to 46kg, but he was eventually assigned to the 5th Division in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do, and his outlook on life was said to have changed. As he faces North Korea and searches the barbed wire fence every day at the site of the division between South and North Korea, he realizes that living a free life is not something that can just be achieved.

At the age of 24, a month before his discharge, he went on search duty and stepped on a landmine, losing his left leg. He was devastated, but on the other hand, he felt proud that he was able to protect the free Republic of Korea through his sacrifice.

They say that the Guinness Book of World Records challenge is to show the world that Korea's disabled veterans are stronger than anyone else. When his son was judged to be a social worker because he was overweight during a physical examination for enlistment, he told him about his military service and encouraged him to join active duty. His son lost weight, joined the Marine Corps, and served on active duty in Yeonpyeong Island. 19가이드03
