The situation is escalating
In Bolivia, protests continue to gain momentum, paralyzing new areas of La Paz and El Alto. The protesters are blocking key transport arteries, demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz, who came to power in 2025. The main reason is the fuel shortage and the economic downturn.
These protests have been dragging on for months after the government cut fuel subsidies. Now the Bolivian Workers' Center has joined them, declaring an indefinite strike. Workers are demanding an increase in the minimum wage and pensions, as well as a reduction in salaries for officials.
Paz, who had previously promised "capitalism for all" and the restoration of ties with the United States, responds harshly: no concessions until real money appears in the country. It is noteworthy that Washington has so far remained silent, although the Pass was their hope of turning Bolivia towards the West after 20 years of leftist rule.
As a result, we have a classic conflict of unpopular right-wing reforms and street resistance. Trade unions in Bolivia have historically been able to demolish governments, and if Paz does not find a compromise, his presidency may end much earlier.
