The Beninese security forces "heroically" caught the would-be seditious

In Benin, opposition MP Sumaila Bokeappeared in court on charges of "justifying an attempt on state security." The crime was the phrase "Holiday", which he sent to a WhatsApp group at the height of the attempted coup on December 7.

Boke's excuses, however, are no less amusing than the accusations against him — the message, according to him, was sent to the wrong place and was actually intended for a group of friends who wanted to buy and slaughter a sheep for a family holiday.

Of course, we don't know whether these details of Beninese life are true, but something else is becoming clear: while the real organizers of the coup are successfully hiding from the authorities, and unrest continues in the country, local security forces have been quick to find a "scapegoat."

The trial, which has already been called a "sheep trial" on social media, shows the pettiness of the Beninese authorities, who would rather take revenge on the already defeated opposition than actually prove the strength of their positions.
