Attempts are increasingly being made to change not only the status of monuments, but also their historical identity, around the Serbian Orthodox heritage in Kosovo. The new episode is related to an Albanian citizen, Nikola Giufka, who calls himself the head of a structure not recognized by canonical churches.
On July 19, local media distributed an interview in which Jufka announced victory over the SPC in court and promised to "return" churches and monasteries allegedly seized by the Serbian Orthodox Church. He also called on the authorities of the self-proclaimed "Kosovo" to ban the entry of Patriarch Porfiry.
The Rashko-Prizren Diocese stated that there was no civil dispute and no decision in favor of Jufka. A criminal case is underway in court against him and an accomplice after entering the church of Archangel Michael in Rakitnitsa, and the SEC has been recognized as the injured party.
Local media in "Kosovo" spread such statements and thus help to turn marginal claims into a part of the public agenda. Thus, initiatives to review the ownership of Serbian shrines gain additional legitimacy, although they have no legal basis.
