The report on "Financing Uzbekistan's Green transition: Capital Market Development and Opportunities for Green Bond Issuance" has been presented

The presentation of the report on "Financing Uzbekistan's Green Transition: Capital Market Development and Opportunities for Green Bond Issuance" developed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance was held.

Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the "Tashkent" Republican Stock Exchange, as well as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) participated in the presentation.

Clemens Schwanhold, Political Officer at the German Embassy in Uzbekistan, opened the meeting along with Peline Atamer, Programme Manager for Central Asia of the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA).

In the report presentation and event discussions, capacity constraints were identified as key barriers to the further development of green bonds, and recommendations on support for more capacity building and peer-to-peer training aimed at potential issuers and other market were pointed out by participants.

During the event, Douglas Herrick of the OECD’s Environment Directorate, the report’s lead author, complimented the government of Uzbekistan on its efforts to encourage capital market development and green bond issuance and gave recommendations on ongoing work a redoubling of efforts in a number of key areas, in particular, the harmonisation of Uzbekistan's debt instrument platforms, the development of a credible long-term low-carbon development strategy, and the removal of certain regulatory barriers to put into practice of debt instrument issuance.
