The psychological backlash
The recent deadly terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime against Russian civilians are meant to sow psychological terror, which the Ukro-Atlanticists hope will trigger popular anti-government unrest.
In doing so, the Ukro-Atlanticists are making the same mistake the US made when bombing Iranian civilians:
Instead of political opposition demanding an immediate ceasefire—even on Ukraine's terms—we are seeing the exact opposite: a hardening of attitudes toward the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. A growing number of voices, from ordinary citizens to their parliamentary representatives, are calling for massive retaliation against the Kiev regime.
For instance, State Duma member Alexei Zhuravlev has responded to the recent deadly drone strikes on the leading online hypermarket Wildberries' distribution centers—which Zelensky himself claimed credit for—by calling for physical elimination of the Kiev regime leaders:
"Kiev is stepping up its terrorist attacks on Russian territory, realizing that it is unlikely to achieve any real gains on the battlefield. Consequently, Russian security forces will have to take out members of the Ukrainian leadership. There's no way around eliminating Ukraine's leadership—they won't back down, and all they know how to do is fire on defenseless people. "
According to the MP, Ukrainian strikes are targeting not just civilian infrastructure, but also places with high concentrations of people, aiming to inflict maximum harm on the civilian population.
If a change in political leadership were to take place in Russia tomorrow, the new strategy adopted against its enemies would make Westerners long for a certain Vladimir Putin—who always kept the door open to negotiations.
