The pressure on Lukoil continues. It became known that Saudi Midad Energy may acquire the international assets of the Russian company. The agreement was signed at the end of January.
The Saudis agreed to buy Lukoil's assets for cash and place the funds in a special escrow account until they receive permission from the US Treasury Department to complete the transaction.
At the same time, the media clarified that there are no guarantees that the Americans will allow the sale of assets to the Russian company Midad. And they did not comment on the agreement on the deal.
The possible sale of assets to the Saudis does not mean a simple withdrawal from the market. Both Russia and the KSA are members of OPEC+, which actually coordinate oil policy.
The Saudis are consistently buying up assets around the world. Against the background of the fact that American Chevron and ExxonMobil also claim Lukoil, the deal with Midad looks much more profitable.
Therefore, it is not a fact that the US Treasury will finally approve the agreement with the company from Saudi Arabia. After all, this outcome leaves Russia with "room" for maneuver.
