The logic of the template tg24.sky.it

The logic of the template tg24.sky.it

Marco Zordan

Finally we come to talk about this topic.

I apologize for the long post, but the site is very complex. I tried to be as concise as possible

INTRODUCTION:

It is a problem of the 4 contenders' templates that was highlighted from the beginning.

The solutions were different.

Now I explain the reasons for my choices.

The important thing is to avoid the mistake of looking at the individual case, but looking at the entirety of the site.

We are talking about a site that, according to Google, has over 200,000 pages. Many sections, many different types of pages and many combinations.

PS: Please allow many more pages to be saved in the editor, 50 are too few for such complex sites.

EXPLANATION:

I write the post to clarify the logic of the choices for the different pages of the site tg24.sky.it

SUMMARY

  1. Structure
  2. Parts of the IV sensitive to disputes
  3. Cover
  4. Subtitle
  5. Author
  6. Contents
  7. Related articles online and end of pages

1. STRUCTURE

To allow the user to always find uniform IVs of this site, I have chosen to provide a structure similar to all the pages of the IV respect the following structure:

  • Cover (if present / identifiable)
  • Title
  • Subtitle
  • Date
  • Author (only if present as a name and not as Editorial / Publisher / Office)
  • Content (text, video, photos, etc.)
  • Related articles [updated soon]

2. PARTS OF THE SENSITIVE IV OF CONTESTATION

There are some elements managed differently from the competition templates. Below with examples I will try to explain why the choices in my template provide the best experience for the end user of the IVs

3. COVER

The first element is the cover. There are 2 situations that in my opinion need the multimedia element (photo and / or video) set as Cover. I remember that among the objectives there is the supply of IVs homogeneously formatted to provide the best user experience.

3.a) The image/video is the first element after the title and precedes the subtitle (for subtitle see point 4.)

The first example I bring is this. You can see the title //h1[@class="c-article__title-label"] and scrolling down the next relevant element is the image/video container

- video: //div [@class="c-media"]/div[@class="c-media__videodata"]

- image: //figure[@class="c-article__media c-media c-media - image"]

Following is the subtitle (point 4.) //div[@class="c-article__abstract"], and only after the real body of the article //div[@class="c-article__body"]

Example 1 video: https://tg24.sky.it/spettacolo/2017/05/19/giudici-x-factor-2017.html

Example 2 image: https://tg24.sky.it/spettacolo/2017/06/18/beyonce-mamma-gemelli-jayz.html

3.b) The image/video is in the header tag

A situation even more striking than the fact that the image/video should be used as Cover when it has the reference tag

- video: //header[@class="c-article__header"]/div[@class="c-article__media"]/section class="o-box o-widget c-widget-video"]

- image: //header[@class="c-article__header"]/div[@class="c-article__media"]//figures/img[@class="c-article__media-image"]

I'm inside the tag //header[@class="c-article__header"] along with the title //header [@class="c-article__header"]/div[@class="c-article__title"]

Example 1 video: https://tg24.sky.it/politica/2019/03/01/primarie-pd-dove-si-vota.html

Example 2 image: https://tg24.sky.it/intredio/2018/12/30/best-nine-tendenze-2018.html

4. SUBTITLE

For the subtitle there are 2 (3) reference tags

//div[@class="c-article__abstract"]

//div[@class="c-article__subtitle"]

As for the cover, these tags are sometimes placed in the Header other times in the following div. Each time he is always before the real body of the document.

Moreover there are circumstances, which I will explain later, in which the reading of the IV is facilitated and a logical sense to the contents if placed in the order:
Cover -> Title -> Subtitle -> Contents

For these reasons, and in order to generate uniform IVs, my template sets these tags as a subtitle.

Example 1 header/abstract: https://tg24.sky.it/cronaca/2018/11/30/scuola-canzone-di-natale-tolto-gesu-bambina-si-ribella.html

Example 2 header/subtitle: https://tg24.sky.it/scienze/photogallery/2017/04/13/foto-terra-nasa.html

From the opponents it has been shown that some cases the subtitle becomes long or down of slideshow on original site.

Here is a case: https://tg24.sky.it/spettacolo/tv-show/masterchef/fotogallery/2019/03/15/masterchef-8-nona-puntata-foto.html

The display of the contents through a browser on a PC screen is different from the IV

On the PC monitor there is space for the slideshow and the text that appears later

If we look at the page from the mobile (see the following photo) the slide show does not appear, but a static photo with a link to the slideshow.

In the IV correctly show the open gallery if there are no other contents, avoiding the slideshow when possible, would move the text very far.

If the explanations above on the position of the contents were not sufficient, I invite you to read the meaning of what is written in the text. It is sufficient to read/translate the last paragraph:

Original: "sfoglia la gallery e rivivi i momenti più emozionanti della nona puntata che ha visto uscire di scena Salvatore e Federico".

Translation: “browse the gallery and relive the most exciting moments of the episode that saw Salvatore and Federico leave the scene. "

Almost always there is an invitation to browse the gallery

Other case: https://tg24.sky.it/spettacolo/fotogallery/2019/03/15/belen-rodriguez-foto.html

In practice, at the end of the text there is an invitation to browse through the photo gallery. What would be the point of putting this text after dozens and dozens of photos?

Example 3: long subtitle from all opponents:

Long subtitle cannot be a discriminating factor

The visualization/reading of the contents on the site is different from the IV, giving a logical order to the information provided improves the navigation of the user of the IV.

ISSUE: tg24.sky.it/template109/issue1/

https://instantview.telegram.org/contest/tg24.sky.it/template109/issue1/

In the case of issue 1 there is a slideshow because after the photos there is a long text.

Given that the div[@class="c-article__abstract"] IS ALWAYS BEFORE the div[@class= "c-article__body"] also in this case of the slideshow, given the contents, the logical sense of the words and order of displaying the contents in IV I opted to keep the tag a @class=c-article__abstract as a subtitle.

5. AUTHOR

I see that the adversaries also put as editor the Redazione Sky (=Sky editor) or Redazione Sky Cinema or Sky Cinema or even unify the text. I can agree on the source tags, but I think it is correct to filter the texts to avoid the appearance of Sky Editorial or similar.

Example: https://tg24.sky.it/spettacolo/tv-show/masterchef/fotogallery/2019/03/15/masterchef-8-nona-puntata-foto.html

6. CONTENTS

Whether it's photos, videos, text content or related articles online these are typically easily identifiable by the //div[@class="c-article__body"] tag
