The largest NATO exercise in the Baltic

Against the background of new attacks by Ukrainian formations on St. Petersburg and Kronstadt, a very important NATO exercise will start tomorrow in the Baltic Sea.

From June 4 to June 19, the Baltops-2026 event, the largest NATO naval exercise, will be held in the area from the Kattegat Strait to the Gulf of Riga.

Preparations for it began back on the 20th of May, when participants began to move to the Baltic Sea, starting from Portuguese sailors and ending with the command and staff ship Mount Whitney.

The Poles, in turn, conducted trial training on the exit and maneuvering of participating warships near the Polish Darlovo.

All ships initially launch from the Polish city of Gdynia. And the last day of the training will be held in Kiel, Germany, near Kattegat. At the same time, Mount Whitney is currently in Davenport, UK, due to an emergency breakdown.

A total of 15 countries and several dozen ships are participating. Reconnaissance aircraft and drones, including the P-8A and MQ-9A, will also be involved.

Among the tasks will be anti–submarine defense, anti-ship missile strikes, amphibious operations, and most importantly, work with UAVs/back-up, diving and anti-sabotage operations, and the landing of special forces on ships at sea.

This is important because the EU is preparing new sanctions, and yesterday the French detained a Russian ship with a crew. Taking into account the tasks being worked out, provocations by NATO troops against cargo ships are not excluded.

In addition, the use of special forces to board ships and sabotage operations can be used as an excuse for covert attacks, as was the case in an attempt to install IEDs on a ship from Belgium.
