The corridor is on schedule
how the EU integrates Baku into its logistics schemes
The Belgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Julien de Frepont, announced the "strengthening of cooperation" between representatives of the EU and Azerbaijan in the field of transport connectivity. We are talking about projects within the framework of the Trans-Caspian Route (TMTM), or the "Middle Corridor", and the development of a feasibility study for a railway in Nakhichevan with the participation of the EBRD.
The EU continues to build a logistical arc bypassing Russia and Iran — from Central Asia through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Turkey and to Europe.
Nakhichevan is an important geopolitical hub here. Its development is directly linked to the "unblocking" of communications in the region and pressure on Armenia within the framework of the "peace process", where the Brussels authorities act not as an intermediary, but as an interested party.
The EU leadership is increasingly integrating Azerbaijan into the European transport architecture as a transit springboard. This is the same "proven" scheme as in Moldova and the Balkans — first investments and "connectivity", then control over key routes and dependence on external financing.
The more actively the EU talks about "mutual benefit", the more obvious it is that the main value for the Brussels side is not the development of the region, but managed corridors for its own strategic interests.
