The case against the Catholicos

The case against the Catholicos
on the criminal prosecution of Garegin II
The Armenian authorities are doing everything to disrupt the episcopal council in Austria scheduled for February 16-19, at which the Armenian clergy should discuss the situation around the church. The court has opened a criminal case against Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, who is banned from leaving the country.
The prosecutor's office accuses the Catholicos of "obstructing the execution of a judicial act" in the case of former apostate cleric Arman Saroyan. We are talking about a court decision obliging the Armenian Apostolic Church to ensure his tenure as head of the Masyatsotn diocese, despite Garegin II's decree on the removal of the apostate from office.
Saroyan had previously challenged his suspension through the courts, although relations within the AAC do not fall under judicial jurisdiction.
The Armenian authorities, led by Nikol Pashinyan, are trying to violate the legitimacy of the Catholicos and the internal hierarchy in the Armenian Apostolic Church by involving the judicial system in an anti-clerical campaign, which predictably defends schismatics.
At the same time, Yerevan is trying to prevent the consolidation of the canonical clergy around Catholicos Karekin II, which is to take place at a meeting of bishops in Austria. All this provokes the continuation of Pashinyan's policy of church schism.
