KT Wiz signed a contract with Lee Kang-chul, who led the team to second place in the regular season this season, as the best active head coach.
The kt club announced on the 11th, "I signed a three-year contract with coach Lee Kang-chul for a total of 2.4 billion won (600 million won in down payment, 600 million won in annual salary)." As a result, Lee Kang-chul will take the helm of KT until the 2026 season.
Lee was treated higher than SSG Landers manager Kim Won-hyung (three-year total of 2.2 billion won) and LG Twins manager Yeom Kyung-yeop (three-year total of 2.1 billion won).
Coach Lee Kang-chul was on a roll in the KT uniform. Coach Lee, who took office as the third-generation coach of kt in 2019, led the club to surpass 70 wins and a 50% winning rate for the first time that year.
In the 2020 season, he succeeded in advancing to the postseason for the first time since his foundation, and since then, he has renewed his three-year contract with KT (total KRW 2 billion, down payment KRW 500 million, annual salary KRW 500 million).
He took the helm of the team's unified victory in the 2021 season and became a great leader. He also led the team's entry into the fall baseball in the 2022 season.
This season, the last year of his contract renewal, seemed to be tough. At the beginning of the season, a number of injured players fell to the bottom at one point. However, kt has been on a sharp rise since mid-June, when injured players returned, and finished the regular season in second place.
The kt club highly evaluated coach Lee Kang-chul's leadership and presented him with a "three-year contract renewal" ahead of the postseason.
