Away went the ram (баран ушел прочь). He travelled till he was hungry and tired (он путешествовал пока он не проголодался и не устал: «был голодным и уставшим»), then he sat down (тогда он присел; to sit /sat/), took off the cloak of darkness (снял плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), spread the cloth of plenty (расстелил скатерть-самобранку: «скатерть изобилия»; cloth — ткань; скатерть), and asked for meat and drink (и попросил еды и питья; to ask — спрашивать; просить; meat — мясо; пища, еда).
Away went the ram. The boy took farewell of his sister, put on the cloak of darkness, and disappeared. He travelled till he was hungry and tired, then he sat down, took off the cloak of darkness, spread the cloth of plenty, and asked for meat and drink.
After he had eaten and drunk his fill (после того, как он наелся и напился вдоволь; to eat /ate, eaten/; to drink /drank, drunk/; fill — достаточное количество /чего-л./; to eat one’s fill — вволю наесться; to fill — наполнять), he took up the cloth (он поднял скатерть), put on the cloak of darkness (надел плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), and went ahead (и двинулся вперед), passing every wind that was before him (обгоняя каждый = любой ветер, который был впереди: «перед ним»; to pass — идти, проходить; обгонять), and leaving every wind that was behind (и оставляя любой ветер позади).
After he had eaten and drunk his fill, he took up the cloth, put on the cloak of darkness, and went ahead, passing every wind that was before him, and leaving every wind that was behind.
About an hour before sunset (примерно за час до заката: «около часа перед закатом») he saw the castle in which his second sister lived (он увидел замок, в котором жила его вторая сестра; to see /saw, seen/). When he reached the gate (когда он добрался до ворот; to reach — протягивать, вытягивать, простирать; достигать /места назначения/, доезжать, доходить, добираться), a girl came out to him and said (одна девушка вышла ему навстречу и сказала), "Go away from that gate (отойди от тех ворот), or you'll be killed (или тебя убьют)."
"I'll not leave this (я не покину этого /места до тех пор/) till my sister who lives in the castle (пока моя сестра, которая живет в этом замке) comes out and speaks to me (/не/ выйдет и /не/ поговорит со мной)."
About an hour before sunset he saw the castle in which his second sister lived. When he reached the gate, a girl came out to him and said, "Go away from that gate, or you'll be killed."
"I'll not leave this till my sister who lives in the castle comes out and speaks to me."
The girl ran in (девушка убежала в /замок/), and out came the sister (и из /замка/ вышла сестра). When she heard his story and his father's name (когда она услышала его историю и имя его отца; to hear /heard/; story — рассказ, повесть; история, предание, сказка), she knew that he was her brother, and said (она поняла, что он ее брат, и сказала; to know /knew, known/ — знать; понимать, сознавать), "Come into the castle (входи в замок), but think nothing of what you'll see or hear (но не обращай внимание на то: «/не/ думай ничего о том», что ты увидишь или услышишь). I don't see my husband from morning till night (я не вижу своего мужа с утра до ночи). He goes and comes in a strange form (он уходит и приходит в странном обличии; strange — незнакомый, неизвестный; странный, необычный; form — форма; обличие), but he is a man at night (но ночами он человек)."
The girl ran in, and out came the sister. When she heard his story and his father's name, she knew that he was her brother, and said, "Come into the castle, but think nothing of what you'll see or hear. I don't see my husband from morning till night. He goes and comes in a strange form, but he is a man at night."
About sunset there was a terrible noise (почти на закате раздался: «был» ужасный шум; about — вокруг, повсюду; около, приблизительно, почти; terrible — страшный, внушающий страх; /эмоц.-усил./ ужасный, жуткий, кошмарный), and in rushed the man of the castle (и внутрь ворвался хозяин замка) in the form of a tremendous salmon (в облике огромного лосося; tremendous — ужасный, страшный; огромный). He went flapping upstairs (он пошел, шлепая /плавниками,/ вверх по лестнице; flap — хлопок, шлепок, удар /чем-л. гибким и широким/; to flap — хлопать, шлепать, ударять /чем-л. гибким и широким/); but he wasn't long there (но он не долго пробыл там) till he came down a fine-looking man (когда он спустился /в облике/ красивого мужчины; fine — ясный, хороший; прекрасный, замечательный; to look — смотреть, глядеть; выглядеть, иметь вид, казаться).
About sunset there was a terrible noise, and in rushed the man of the castle in the form of a tremendous salmon. He went flapping upstairs; but he wasn't long there till he came down a fine-looking man.
