The Ultimate Cheat Sheet On Upvc Replacement Door Handles
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. It is important to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The top screw's position, the lever and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements you have to verify. Use the size guide to help you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever door handle is a modern handle that can be installed on replacement or new doors. This style of handle is available in various designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite handles are made from robust materials, and are perfect for multi-point lock doors that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and work off the same spindle and screw fixings so they can be easily incorporated into new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.
The handle can be positioned and angled to fit the needs of all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever is also adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is especially useful in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors where the latch could be opened by a thumb turn inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles found on most doors. These handles are operated by one spindle or two spindles, inline or offset. They are usually used on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in a variety of styles and styles.
The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. upvc door handles meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All UPVC levers for handles include a spindle and screws, and can be fitted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm permit a bigger handle, which can be beneficial when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have a spring, which solves the problem of door handles that sag out of horizontal position when not in use.
When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect of matching up the correct handles.
After you have determined the correct size of PZ, you will need to make sure that the push and lever pads are shaped to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They are usually rectangular or round in shape with an internal lever and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the home. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock operates by a key which unlocks the cylinder's casing. This reveals pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock and allow them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with both internal and external doors generally needing different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It's dependent on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, exterior doors require a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, like anti drill or anti bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central screw hole to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. It is best to do this with the lock in place, but if this is not possible, you can take it off to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is crucial that it is not too long.
The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a new direction. This will help to deflect an attack and ensure your door is secure.
There are cylinders designed to resist snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and less difficult than gaining access through a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a burglary, which could hinder the insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is located inside the base of your door handle's backplate providing a sprung solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. There was a time when these types of handle did not have a spring integrated into them and without this they tend to droop or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the best ways to correct this, and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in the open or closed position, as these are not always easy to manually close by hand.
These spring cassettes are specifically designed to be used with multipoint locks that are sprung They will not work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You must have a custom hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They feature a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution to the problem of door handles that are sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the life span of your uPVC doors.
