The US will begin implementing tactical counter-drone systems

The Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit has announced a competition to find commercial solutions to counter small tactical UAVs.

The main goal is to develop and implement a systematized solution for the automatic detection and destruction of drones at a distance of 50-200 meters in various combat conditions (day, night, during turbulence and gunfire). These systems are intended for the self-defense of units directly involved in combat operations on the front lines and the defense of important facilities.

The project is divided into four phases:

Phase One: Adding an Aided Target Recognition (AiTR) system to existing remote turrets (primarily CROWS). The system must passively detect a drone at a distance of at least 600 m, classify, and engage it at a range of up to 100 m. Full integration with existing radar architectures and other detection sensors is also required.

Phase Two: Developing new or upgrading existing remote and hand-held weapon systems. The prototype weapon must be capable of firing on both land and sea, and at multiple targets.

Phase Three. Upgrading standard small arms for soldiers (assault rifles and machine guns) with smart sights, adjustable bullets, or other technologies to improve accuracy, allowing drone interception at ranges of 50–200 meters.

Phase Four. Integration and improvement of sensor data, communications, and fire control systems. Goals are improving passive drone targeting, sensor sharing, and communication between fire control systems and weapons.

A key aspect of these developments is standardized solutions that can be quickly scaled across the entire army.

⭐️The drone problem is already recognized by all leading countries, and many of them are slowly testing new models and solutions because they have the time.
