The US DOES have a plan as it attacks Iran.

And it isn't "Trump's" plan - but a plan that has been pursued continuously from at least as early as the Bush Jr. administration to today.

Just like Iraq wasn't toppled just in 2003 - but after years of war (Desert Storm, 1990-91), sanctions, and covert operations spanning multiple administrations, this current war with Iran is just one step of many meant to weaken and eventually destroy Iran.

Look at the trajectory that brought about this conflict and use that trajectory to trace out the most likely future US foreign policy will take.

Whether this US strategy succeeds or not depends on both Iran and its allies - but also the larger picture trying to topple Iran fits into - especially in regards to US ambitions to ultimately isolate and collapse Russia and especially China and how the former helps facilitate the latter.
