Lockout Protection
Lockout protection prevents lockouts caused by the failure of the impedance. A special module in power control unit detects the activity of the impedance relay and then disables the output. Many serious accidents have occurred as a result of the machine was running when it was supposed to be turned off for maintenance or repairs. These accidents are usually the result of energy that has not been released properly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems can prevent these incidents by ensuring that the machines remain off until a person authorized releases them.
The LOTO system consists of a variety of locks tags, locks, and other equipment that are used to secure, isolate or shut off the machine from an electrical source. All "affected", "authorized" and "qualified" personnel must be instructed on the use of lockout and tagout devices. These devices include but not only chains, locks padslocks, wedges adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is identified and labeled with the date and the time of application along with the name of the person authorized, and the reason behind the lockout/tag-out (repair maintenance, repair, etc.). It must also be clearly stated that these devices are not able to be removed until a thorough LOTO procedure is followed.
