The Three Greatest Moments In Low Maintenance House Plants History
Low Maintenance House Plants
There are many house plants that are a bit fussy while others require less care. These low-maintenance plants are great for forgetful gardeners and those who struggle to keep their greenery alive.
All three are very easy to cultivate the holiday cactus and peace lily. Just water it occasionally and provide it with an indirect, bright light.
Calthea Ornata
Pinstripe Calathea is a beautiful subtle foliage that contrasts the brighter leaves of plants like Arrowhead Vine or Chinese Evergreen. It can be used to create indoor landscapes for offices. They are safe for the environment which makes them safe for pets and children to be around.
This tropical plant requires moderate amounts of sunlight. It is a great fit for the sunlit windowsill, but must be kept away from direct sunlight, as this can cause burns to its leaves. If you're worried about the sun's presence in your home, place your calathea near the window and cover it with a sheer curtain. This will block the most intense sunlight.
Humidity is also essential for this house plant. It can tolerate dry air up to a point but it won't thrive in it. To keep the humidity up you can mist the leaves of your calathea twice a week using water at room temperature. You can also put your calathea inside a place that has high levels of humidity such as the kitchen or bathroom.
Calathea ornata does not require a lot of attention however, it requires some to stay healthy. It's not a big feeder however, you can add a liquid fertilizer for your houseplant to the soil once or every month, during the growing season. Be common houseplants of the calathea plant to prevent problems like browning of leaves.
Tillandsia
Tillandsia is a houseplant that is unique in that it grows without soil. They are part of the pineapple or pineapple rose plant family, and there are more than 540 species! They thrive in bright, filtered light (not direct sunlight) and should be misted with water around every two weeks. They can be grown outdoors, but they do better indoors or in humid climates such as Florida.

Tillandsia are ideal for those who travel and forget to water their plants. They can be used to accent other plants in the house or placed in a decorative way and are great to use in terrariums.
Tillandsia are epiphytes that occur in nature. They are non-parasitic, and they attach themselves to trees, rocks and other plants to obtain water and nutrients. The process of CAM photosynthesis also allows to exchange gasses at night and to breathe. This is distinct from other plants, which breathe through their leaves at night. Tillandsiaxerographica's leaves are serpentine and bend in different directions. It is adorned with trichomes, which give the foliage a soft silver color. This species is native in Guatemala, Mexico El Salvador and Honduras. It is commonly used in terrariums or attached to a piece of driftwood.
Orchids
Orchids can be daunting for the first-time home plant grower however with a bit of research and careful attention they can make an impressive addition to any home. The most common orchids are the moth orchids or Phalaenopsis. They have beautiful blooms and are a great choice for our centrally heated houses.
Orchid flowers come in a variety of shapes sizes, colors and sizes. They are typically spotted with speckles and their stems rise above clumps with long, arching leaves. They are found all over the world in forests on mountains, and even deserts.
Some orchids require bright light while others thrive in dim to medium lighting. Whatever the species, it is crucial that the orchids receive enough light to flower. Insufficient light is the main reason orchids do not produce flowers. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves of most orchids. To prevent this, put the plant behind curtains or window blinds that let light be filtered through.
Watering orchids is also very important. Make sure to spray the plants with tepid water at least twice a week in winter and three to four times a week during warmer months. This will flush out any salts naturally occurring and keep the roots moist. Fertilize orchids every two weeks during growth and once a month in dormancy. Use commercial orchid fertilizers like 30-10-10, dilute to half strength.
Peace Lily
Peace lilies can be an excellent addition to any home because they purify the air. They are able to absorb a variety of harmful gases and VOCs such as benzene, xylene, carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde. They are easy to care for and require minimal maintenance. In addition, they can be used as decorations because of their elegant and beautiful green leaves.
When growing Peace Lilies indoors, they prefer bright indirect light. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves of Peace Lilies. They can be placed near heat or air conditioning vents, but should not be placed directly in front of them as this can cause the leaves to fade.
Water Peace Lilies regularly, giving the top inch or two of soil to dry before taking another watering. The plant will let you know when it is thirsty by drooping just a bit.
Fertilize every month with an appropriate liquid fertilizer for house plants using the recommended dilution and application schedule. Overfertilizing the plant can lead to excessive growth of the foliage at the expense or the flowers.
Peace Lilies can also help to reduce mildew on curtains and walls. They accomplish this by absorbing excess moisture from the air. This is especially beneficial in washrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms where the growth of mildew is a concern. The plant also reduces the amount of acetone or alcohol fumes in a space that can be harmful to those exposed to them.
Anthurium
This well-known houseplant can make any home look beautiful. Its long, bright flowers symbolize friendship and love that lasts. It also tops NASA's list of air purifying plants. Anthurium, as an epiphyte grows naturally on the sides of trees or along the edges of other plants, but it is able to adapt to a potted. Re-pot it with a coco coir or peat soil mix regularly and keep it in direct sunlight. Water it when the soil is 50-75% dry and mist it often (but be careful not to overwater it).
Anthuriums can be propagated by seed or through stem cuttings. It is recommended to use stem cuttings to propagate them, as seeds only remain viable for a brief time. To do this, cut a section of the plant that measures at least one inch in length, then wrap it with sphagnum moss. Place the plant in a pot that has some moisture, and cover it with plastic wrap. This will encourage the germination. When the roots are visible, remove the sphagnum moss, and cut the stem at a node. Then, place it in an Aroid pot mix.
During the growth period fertilize your anthuriums each other week with a liquid fertiliser at half strength. Avoid fertilizing too much anthuriums as they are prone to rot. Watch out for insect pests like spider mites, scale insects and mealy bugs.
Spider Plant
Spider plants are a great choice for indoor gardens, since they thrive in low-light conditions and don't require direct sunlight. They are safe, easy to maintain and ideal for homes that have pets or young children. Spider plants are also known to remove harmful chemicals and toxins from the air. This makes them a great choice for people suffering from allergies.
Spider plants require moderate amounts of fertilization and watering. Ideally, it should be kept in warm, bright indirect sunlight as direct sunlight can cause scorching of the leaves. To encourage growth, the soil must be well-draining and not allowed to become soggy. Fertilize your plants regularly with a good quality potting mix.
Repotter the plant once it has reached the desired height. To do this, gently pull the roots and identify areas with a good amount of roots. Then, place the plant in a new container and fill it with well-drained houseplant potting mix. Water the new container immediately and continue to water regularly until the plant is established.
In winter, indoor plants may become very dry and may require misting in order to increase humidity levels. This can be accomplished by putting your plants in a moist area such as a bathroom or kitchen or by running a humidity machine, or grouping the plants together. The brown leaves on spider plants can be a sign of soil that is too dry or too wet. Be sure to check the moisture levels frequently.
