EYRE OFFICIAL.

Irene, the mom, was tough, with a permanent crease between her brows. Her brothers and sisters, Mingyu, Joshua, Ziyoung and Hyejoo, was quieter, always checking the perimeter. Their kids, were too young to remember a world without walkers.

"Morning, sleepyheads," Irene called from the kitchen. She was making a breakfasst. "Pancakes today!"

Xinyu, Sangah, Sohyun and Sophia, skipped in, their worn teddy bear clutched tight. Sunwoo, Sungchan and Heeseung, shuffled behind her, rubbing their eyes. Breakfast was usually quiet, just the clinking of forks and the distant moans of a few stray walkers outside the walls.

After breakfast, Jake and Sunghoon did daily check. The walls of Alexandria were old, patched up countless times, but they still held. They walked the full circuit, eyes scanning for any sign of trouble, any weak spot. Anton and Taesan, saw a small group of walkers shuffling slowly past the main gate, their clothes ragged, their skin gray. They knew the drill. Keep moving, don't make a sound.

Wonyoung with Mai and Danielle were in the small garden they had cultivated. It was their lifeline, providing them with most of their food. Wonyoung was teaching Danielle and Mai how to tell a ripe tomato from a green one. While their youngers, Jihoon, Sarang, Iroha and Seowon was digging in the dirt, making funny noises. It was a moment of peace, a tiny bubble of normal in a very abnormal world.

Suddenly, a loud thud shook the house. The boys, who was still on the wall, froze. Wonyoung grabbed the kids, pulling them close. "Stay quiet," she whispered, her voice tight. Another thud, closer this time. It sounded like something big was hitting the outer wall. Heeseung sprinted back to the house, his face grim. "Something's out there," he breathed, checking his rifle. He peered through a crack in the boarded-up window. A group of about ten walkers, bigger than usual, were slamming against the wall, their grunts echoing in the silence. One of them, a huge one, was almost through a weak spot.

"They're coming through," Anton said, his voice flat. He looked at Wonyoung, then at the kids. This was it. The end of their time in Alexandria.

"We have to go," Irene said, already pulling their small backpacks from under the table. They contained their essentials: a few cans of food, water bottles, first aid, and a small, faded photo album.

Iroha and Seowon started to cry. "But this is our home!"

"Not anymore, sweetie," Sophia said, hugging them tight. "We'll find a new one."

The Uncles, Mingyu and Joshua, led the way, his rifle ready. Irene, with the Eldest girls held the kids' hands, pulling them along. They went through a hidden back door, a route they had prepared long ago for an escape. The world outside the walls was a dangerous place. But the Eyres were survivors. They had to be.

They walked for hours, sticking to the shadows, avoiding the roads. The sun began to set, painting the sky in fiery oranges and reds. They found a small, abandoned shed by a field, mostly intact.

"We'll stay here for the night," Mingyu said, checking the shed for any unwelcome guests.

Inside the room, it was dark and dusty, but safe for now. Xinyu pulled out a can of peaches and a few crackers. It wasn't much, but it was food.

As the kids ate, curled up close to their parents, Irene looked at children's Aunties and Uncles. Their eyes met, full of unspoken fear, but also a fierce determination. They had lost their home, but they hadn't lost each other.

"Where do we go now?" Irene asked, her voice small in the dark.

Joshua looked out the open door, at the vast, silent world. "Somewhere safe," Mingyu, more to himself than to them. "Somewhere we can start over."

The journey had just begun. The Eyres, the last family of Alexandria, were now just a family, walking into the unknown, together.
