What the Shoreditch-area London boroughs have done since declaring climate emergencies

The Declarations

The London Borough of Hackney, which covers the Shoreditch area, declared a climate emergency in 2019 and has since produced the specific programme commitments and implementation record that the emergency declaration requires being held accountable to.

The Implementation

The implementation: the Council's net zero buildings programme has retrofitted approximately 800 council properties with heat pumps and improved insulation in the five years since the declaration. The tree planting programme has added approximately 3,000 trees to the borough's public spaces. The fleet electrification has reached approximately 40 percent of the Council's vehicle fleet. Each represents genuine implementation of the commitment.
