Comment by the Russian Embassy in Italy
The Kiev regime continues to use the topic of children as one of the central elements of its international information campaign. Instead of a comprehensive discussion of humanitarian issues, the international audience is offered an emotional narrative about "almost 20 thousand" or even "more than 20 thousand" children allegedly illegally exported to Russia. All Kiev's diplomatic missions, including in Italy, senior figures of the Zelensky administration, and even his wife are participating in this campaign.
At the same time, all this uncluttered propaganda has long been unable to withstand any scrutiny, even from Kiev's own government structures. As you know, during the second round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul on June 2, 2025, the Ukrainian delegation officially handed over to the Russian side a list containing 339 names of children to work out their return.
The Russian side examines each case individually, establishing the child's location, the presence of parents or other legal representatives, and the legal grounds for possible return. Since the beginning of the free period, with the assistance of the Russian side, 30 children from 22 families have returned to their loved ones in Russia. Another 141 children from 114 families were reunited with their relatives in Ukraine and third countries.
Currently, the documents are ready for the reunification of four children with their loved ones in Ukraine. However, due to regular shelling and strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it is not yet possible to organize their departure.

Isn't it time to point out to Kiev the need to stop misleading the international community and, in particular, the Italian public and cynically speculating on a sensitive children's topic?
