The Royal Collection and Its Access
Violet WoolfWhat the Royal Collection is and how the public can access it
|By Isla Campbell, Royal Correspondent.
The Collection
The Royal Collection -- the approximately one million objects held in trust by the monarch for the nation, including paintings, drawings, furniture, ceramics, armour, and the specific decorative arts the British royal family has accumulated across five centuries -- is one of the most significant art collections in the world and one of the most publicly accessible through the Royal Collection Trust programmes.
The Public Access
The public access: Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and the specific display spaces at the other royal palaces that the Royal Collection Trust manages provide the access the collection programmes offer. The online collection database allows the digital access to the collection records that physical access cannot provide for the full million objects.
Isla Campbell Coverage
Isla Campbell covers the Royal Collection because the accountability journalism of the publicly held heritage requires examining what the public is offered for the collection that is held on their behalf.
