A Security Officer (SO) is a trained agent who protects a company's premises and employees from unlawful intruders or acts of terrorism. A trained SO will work closely with the business' security manager to develop and execute a security plan, ensuring that all areas of the business are secure at all times.

A SO is often referred to as a peacekeeper or first responder due to their role in policing a scene of a crime or incident, and their duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Searching premises
• Carrying out initial investigations
• Taking witness statements
• Packing up and removing evidence
