The Rising Tied is the 2005 debut by American rap act Fort Minor - the side project of Linkin Park emcee Mike Shinoda. It features multiple appearances by rap group Styles of Beyond , as well as John Legend , Black Thought , Common , Skylar Grey (under her original pseudonym of Holly Brook), with production handled by Shinoda and Jay Z serving as executive producer
I wanted to send out the message that I’m not doing this just to get more attention to myself as a person. It’s more about the music than me, and I thought by putting another name on it, it would keep the attention on the music. ‘Fort’ represents the more aggressive side of the music. ‘Minor’ can mean a few things: if you’re talking about music theory, the minor key is darker. I wanted to name the album rather than having my name on the cover, because I want people to focus on the music, not me. In fact, the reason I named the record ‘The Rising Tied’ is because it’s a play on words. This “tied” group of people are coming up together in the context of this record.
The Rising Tied was released November 22, 2005, to critical acclaim. To date, it is the only Fort Minor album released.

So let me explain a bit. Fort Minor is a spin off of Linkin Park. The bassist can rap so while Linkin Park wasn't doing a whole lot, this is what happened. And its pretty darn good. 1. Introduction N/A 2. Remember The Name: 5/5 I'm sure you've heard it by now, its a fantastic song with a great original chorus. 3. Right Now: 4/5 This is just a flat out solid song. Nothing really great about it, but nothing bad about it. Its one you'll listen to a few times, but not one you'll listen to on a regular basis. 4. Petrified: 3/5 I'm not a big fan. The hook is lame. The beat is lazy. Just not a great song. 5. Feel Like Home: 5/5 One of the better songs on the album without a doubt. The hook is great and the beat is awesome. 6. Where'd You Go: 5/5 This is one that should of and probably was played on the radio like crazy when it first came out, absolutely fantastic song. One that you will want to listen to over and over. 7. In Stereo: 3/5 Again, a swing and a miss by Shinoda. Lazy beat makes it a forgetful song. The hook is okay though. 8. Back Home: 3/5 This is the part we're kind of in the dry part of the CD, the CD could of done without it. 9. Cigarettes: 4/5 I'm not sure what to make of this song. Its kind of making fun of rap these days. I don't know, its okay. Not Great. 10. Believe Me: 5/5 I love this song. The hook is great. The beat is also great. One you'll want to listen to quite a few times. 11. Get Me Gone: N/A 12. High Road: 5/5 John Legend does a fantastic job in this track. The beat is awesome, it makes one of the top tracks in the CD. 13. Kenji: 5/5 Freakin' Unbelievable. Without a doubt my favorite song on the CD. It tells a heart wrenching story about a Japanese person that lived in the US when Pearl Harbor Happened. I absolutely love this song. I actually think this has the best beat of any of the songs on the album. Download this one now. 14. Red To Black: 4/5 With a little help from his Linkin' Park buddies they make a solid track. Not fantastic, but its a good listen. 15. The Battle: N/A 16. Slip Out The Back: 5/5 A great way to exit the album, its got a sweet beat, everything is good, great hook. I love it. This is a CD you need to listen to. Its a Rap CD without all the crap usually found in rap CDs now a days. Must Have Songs: (In order) 1. Kenji 2. Were'd You Go 3. Remember The Name 4. Believe Me 5. Slip Out The Back 6. High Road Thats why this CD gets a final score of: 8.5/10

I was very skeptical about the playability of the CD and even considered immediately returning it but I chose to give it a play and was surprised there were no skips. I might buy more frome this seller

It's Mike Shinoda. Need i say more?

Lost this album a long time ago, finally replaced happy to have it again

I admit, I bought this album thinking there was going to be a linkin vibe kind of revamp ( a bit like that album where they collaborated with many great hip hop artists) and was a bit weary of the whole thing, but then again im glad i bought this cd. I dont particularly like Shinoda's style but he definatly has put his end into this project. My only beef is the production is not what you would expect of a typical hip hop album, almost electronicesque feel with the sub's and kicks but then again i guess that's the linkin park feel or influence, it grows on you. Not the greatest album but something I will listen to every now and then. I am really impressed with Shinoda's effort and cant wait to hear if fort minor puts out another album to see the growth and change from this one. Onto something good here... dont let it slip!

I bought this CD mainly because of "Remember the Name", but to my big surprise, I liked all the other tracks too. To be able to listen to an entire CD without skipping, because you don't like one or more songs, is a very rare thing indeed, especially nowadays. Yet this is what happened. I enjoy all of them! Some of the songs are very powerful with beautiful, meaningful lyrics. I love the idea of hip hop with a message, it rarely happens. The song "Cigarettes" even deals with that topic, the "guns, drugs and misogyny" of most of the hip hop lyrics, that don't mean anything and are sometimes just plain ugly. These guys are for real! This is so much better than anything else I've heard in a long time. The beats and the piano accents are out of this world. Excellent listening! I'm eagerly awaiting the next Fort Minor production!

That's a broad statement, but coming from a guy who listens to all styles of music but stays away from most modern rap, it makes sense. Now, OK, it might be biased that I do like Linkin Park, and checked the CD out based on the fact that Mike Shinoda was the main person in the group, but that doesn't mean that I went in expecting an LP CD. In fact, I'm glad it's not, this CD is a break from the nu-metal that Mike's been doing for the last decade. Anyway into the review. The beats on here are excellent. Yes similar to something Hahn would put in an LP song. The raps are awesome. This guy is very talented. He can make a biting angry song (Cigarette, Petrified) one minute and a sad song (Where'd You Go?) the next. This is definitely a CD that people not only LP fans but everyone in general can listen to and enjoy. So yeah, get it!

Very different

The reason that I bought this album was because Mike is the lead guy and it was his side project in-between Meteora and MtoM, and I was expecting something lyrically differentiated between the two albums, but the result is that it is by far different to anything I have ever heard him on. This is far more for the hip hop kids - especially the Jay Z fans, who was a producer on this album. He actually features talking on some songs; the Introduction and at the end of In stereo. When I begun listening to this album I really didn't like it and I thought it was the worst thing Mike has ever do0ne. Now, as time has gone on, I've given it a chance and I have got to liking this album. There are expressive vocals, some inspiration and good music. This album is much better than Collision course, which Mike and the rest of Linkin Park did with Jay-Z. This album is new and there are new sounds, it isn't just recycled music trying to fit into the same beat. I know that a lot of the older Linkin Park fans won't like this on their first listen, but give it a chance and I'm sure you can get to like it. I know that this album was more personal to Mike and there are a few songs on here that are all about him. This album has a different concept and ideas than his other projects and it sticks to the hip hop roots. Mike assembled 2 guys to help him on this album. One is Ryu, whose lyrics have too much swearing, and the other is Tak, who has a great rapping voice. There are also appearances from Styles of beyond, Common, Holly Brook and Jonah Matranga Even John Legend on the piano influenced High road. Joe Hahn appears on the final song; Slip out the back. He must do some of the beats. It is like a hip hop culture coming together to make this album. The first song is the expressive (if you can dismiss all the swearing and call it that!) Remember the name. It introduces the group and they get to say a bit about themselves. It must be fun to write about what you do in the group. It is a bit narcissistic but it is a good tune nevertheless. Right now is one of my favourite song's which talks about people all over the world and their situation. Black thought and Styles of beyond feature nicely. Feel like home is a song that illustrates the negativity of the place where you live and trying to make it suit you. Where'd you go is probably my least favourite song on here. One thing that is very noticeable is that the piano loop sounds similar to Yellowcard's Three flights up, which was something that Mike probably did think he'd steal - it wouldn't surprise me! Anyway, it is all about missing someone and it sounds kind of wingey to me. Like Mike says ` You can't appear weak, we wanna hear street'! Back home is another of my favourites on here. It talks about how bad things are there and how it all goes black without the stage lights. It also talks of despair and has a great sound to it. Cigarettes is another sort of vain song. It talks about how Mike's lyrics are like Cigarettes. Believe me is the standout song. It is definitely the highlight of the record. It has a very good sound to it and is the most upbeat song. The chorus has Mike singing in it which is a nice touch. It depicts losing yourself within this world, relying on someone else .Get me gone is totally narcissistic. It is about Mike complaining how some guy from his record label wanted him to quit rapping and just play keyboard, when Linkin Park first began. He talks of the negativity in the music industry. High road goes well after that song and is about the cynics in the music industry and the people who were against him, but Mike is ignoring him. What a mature boy! Kenji depicts Mike's family's life in world war 2 and what they went through as Japanese citizens. Red to black is my second favourite song on here. There is a great chorus and good vocal output. Mike talks of a friend he had whose life turned bad. Great sound. The final song is Slip out the back which sounds pretty good. It is a song with much less energy but it's ironic because Mike is trying to get away. I don't know how people feel about Mike's effort on a far different project but give it some room. If you listen to it more and keep open minded then you might appreciate this. It is also good if you are in a bad mood to hear those hip hop beats.

A Great album- "softer" than Linkin Park and different in a good way. Hoping for a sequel.

Great album, great artwork and interesting collaborations. It is "softer" for want of a better word than Linkin Park stuff, so clearly distinct from it. I bought the album during a Linkin Park dry-spell, when it had been aeons since they had realsed any new studio material and am very glad I did. Plenty of great tracks and truly memorable hooks on here. I really hope Fort Minor puts out a sequel album at some point. Highly recommended

Fantastic album. This album simply does not age in my mind. I'm not the world's greatest rap fan, usually because as a woman I find the subject content of most rap music derogatory and offensive. The Rising Tied however is a masterpiece of rap with excellent production and intelligent lyrics.

Highly recommended if you like all things Linkin Park.

Anything linked to Linkin Park is great so yeah; highly recommended. It's different but in a good way. Get to hear Mike telling it as it is :)

Old skool Shinoda at his best.
