"The raging tide won't wash over unless you tell it to."
Sael sat still in front of the interviewer. This is one of her schedules, meticulously arranged by her manager, Agatha, after she had a major breakdown on stage during the 2027/28 Fashion Week a week ago. She started trembling and experiencing a cold sweat when she stood at the edge of the runway and had to run back to the backstage area after being reminded of her late mother.
"Such a good quote, Sael. What does it mean?"
"The heavy problem won't get into your head unless you let it be."
The interviewer nodded a few times, a dazzling smile still on her face even though Sael's manager stood not too far from them just in case the interview got out of hand. The thing is, it will get out of hand; all the magazines and newspapers are lined up to interview her, and she always declines the offers. You may ask why Sael is accepting this one? You can say that she had to speak about her condition.
"We are touching a very sensitive matter here, and we have confirmed with Sael herself that this is alright, correct?"
Sael nodded.
"So, what happened?"
Her late mother happened.
She grew up in a household where nothing really mattered other than her mother. She had been living her entire life knowing she would be a shadow of Anastasya, the prime supermodel of the 90s.
Climbing up the stairs to supermodel hasn't been easy; being told she got lucky because of her mother killed her spirit too many times until Azalaïs happened. Azalaïs is a very strict CEO at her agency. The one who believed in her potential, because the moment Azalaïs said You are not worth even a gaze; you are over.
"You are not like your mother, and I quite enjoyed your walk."
It was later on that she found out that Azalaïs and Anastasya were friends. Sometimes Sael would wake up at night wondering whether she got in out of Azalaïs' pettiness of heart, not her talent itself.
She remembered when she told her mother that she had been admitted to the agency, receiving a mocking scoff while her mother flipped through the magazine that featured her best friend, Erica, on the cover.
"You won't be able to pass me anyway; what is the point?"
"Sael?"
She snapped back to reality with the crew and her manager staring, obviously worried.
"My apologies, I must be out of my mind to space out. What was the question again, if I may ask?"
"During the fashion week, you suddenly got cold feet. We would like to know what actually happened, what was actually going on inside Saelvarsh's head?"
"My mother appeared in the audience."
The atmosphere had turned intense; she could see her manager tensed up at the mention of Anastasya. Agatha had a good share of how Anastasya treated her as a manager and as a friend.
"Which is weird, I know, because she died 3 years ago."
Sael looks down at her palms, trembling just mentioning the word mother.
"I can see her judging me; even at her funeral, she is so intimidating that no one actually dares to come close to look at her. " To think it had to be changed to a closed casket because she was scary, as always." Sael paused. "Every time." She haunts me every time. I had to go to a professional for this problem of mine."
The interview went well anyway.
Saelvarsh sobbed in Agatha's arms that night, inside the palace of her mind; Anastasya always haunts her.
The raging tide washed over once again.
