|The Racial Wealth Gap Is Policy, Not Accident
The median white family holds approximately eight times the wealth of the median Black family. This was produced by specific federal policy: FHA redlining denied mortgage insurance in Black neighborhoods from 1934 to 1968; the GI Bill was administered through state structures that systematically denied benefits to Black veterans; Social Security originally excluded domestic and agricultural workers -- disproportionately Black. These were deliberate policy choices that built white middle-class wealth while excluding Black Americans.
The extraction history is equally documented. The Greenwood District in Tulsa was destroyed in 1921 through mob violence and city-sanctioned demolition. Systematic seizure of Black-owned farmland through legal manipulation transferred an estimated 12 million acres from Black to white ownership between 1910 and 1997. The Policy Response Required
