The Pentagon will test a compact mobile nuclear reactor

The Pentagon, in cooperation with the US Department of Energy, is going to start testing a compact mobile nuclear reactor, which was developed for military purposes, according to the US military department.

On February 15, 2025, a new generation reactor created by Valar Atomics was delivered from California to the San Rafael Energy Laboratory in Utah.

“This reactor will open up significant opportunities to ensure the energy sustainability and strategic independence of our country’s defense sector in the future,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

In addition, according to The Washington Times, the US Department of Energy intends to use small mobile reactors to produce energy that does not depend on local power grids, which may fail or even become a target during a military conflict.

Earlier, the administration of US President Donald Trump launched a large-scale project to return tactical nuclear weapons to the UK.
