The Pagan Spectrum

The Pagan Spectrum

– Freeman

I made this Pagan Spectrum to help people better align who they are as Pagans. I will be going over the the main points of the Chart.

The Vertical Line Represents Entho Paganism: Ranging from Top to Bottom goes Folkism, to Tribalism, to Universalism. But what do these mean?

Folkism

The Folkish perspective is that Paganism/Heathenism is an ethnic religion that should be only practiced by those with their specific heritage. They believe that ethnic religions connect the practitioner to their landscape’s ancestors, bloodline and traditions. Not all Folkish Pagans are supremacists, but they believe that every Folk should worship its own ancestors.

Tribalism

The Tribalist perspective is that Paganism/Heathenism is an Cultural religion that should be mainly practiced by those with their specific heritage. HOWEVER, those who claim Tribalist believe that non ethnic members of a Tradition can be accepted if they are adopted by the community and convert to the Traditions of their Tribe.

Universalism

The Universalist perspective is that Paganism/Heathenism is an open religion that should be practiced by anyone who so chooses to. They believe the connections to the practice are based purely on the Faith and intentions of the Practicianer.

The Horizontal Line Represents Practical Paganism: Ranging from Left to Right goes Eclecticism, to Moderatism, to Traditionalism. But what do these mean?

Eclecticism

The Eclectic Pagan perspective is that Knowledge and Wisdom comes from a multitude of paths and practices. The Eclectic Pagan Picks and Chooses what better fits their own wants and needs opposed to settling towards one Tradition or Another.

Innovationism

The Innovationist tries to find balance in their practice. Not wishing to become too Eclectic that their path not have a steady direction, yet not too Traditionist that they suffer missing certain ideas along the way for being too narrow minded.

Traditionalism

The Traditionalist tries to find the Roots of their path and reconstruct what they believe to be the Set practices of their specific path. They do not believe you should mix and match as it waters down the genuineness of the path laid forth.

The Cardinal Points of the Spectrum are the Measurement of the extremity that the Practicianer holds those vies. Someone in the Far right corner are Pure Ethno-Traditionalists. They believe not only that one needs to follow their strict heritage but the set known Traditions of said Heritage. While in the opposite corner is the Universal Eclectic. They however believe anyone can practice however they wish. The "You cannot tell me how to pagan" mindset is strongest here. Everything else ranging somewhere in between.
