The Notre Dame Cathedral fire of April 2019 -- which destroyed the spire and damaged the roof and vault of the 860-year-old cathedral -- produced the specific outpouring of international support and funding that the subsequent reconstruction has been funded by. The reconstruction, announced as a five-year project, was completed ahead of schedule with the cathedral reopened in December 2024.
