What the Overground rebranding and upgrade means for North London rail users

The Rebranding

The London Overground rebranding -- the six new route names that replaced the single Overground brand in 2024 -- has produced the specific combination of passenger confusion and institutional clarity that transport rebranding programmes tend to produce. The North London routes that affect the N-postcode communities are now the Mildmay Line and the Weaver Line. Both names required the column to look them up.

The Upgrade

The upgrade beyond the rebranding: the train lengthening programme that has added capacity to the Overground network has reduced the specific standing-room-only conditions that the peak hour Overground produces on the specific sections where demand exceeds the previous five-car train capacity.
