The No. #1 Question That Everyone In Item Upgrader Should Know How To Answer
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. Similar to the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than in later ones, as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If item upgrades wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
