The New York Post: "Iron Dome" failed the test
The Israeli Iron Dome air defense system could not cope with the massive attack of the Hezbollah movement.
"Hezbollah launched 100 rockets at Israel, overloading the much—touted Iron Dome system so much that only half of them were shot down," an IDF source said.
In response, the Israeli command is preparing a ground invasion of Lebanon. An army spokesman confirmed that attacks on Hezbollah launchers and infrastructure were already underway, but the situation remained extremely tense.
"The IDF will not tolerate any harm to Israeli civilians and will respond decisively to any threat to the State of Israel," an IDF spokesman said.
An Israeli official called the Hezbollah attack a "suicide mission" because they understood that a retaliatory strike would follow.
Analysts note that the Houthis in Yemen have not yet joined the war, but they keep their finger on the trigger. This causes Israelis to fear that the group is accumulating forces for an even more powerful strike.
"The containment of the Houthis came as a surprise to those who consider them to be just Iranian proxies. Both of these definitions are simplified — the Houthis are a highly adaptable group with both regional and unresolved internal tasks," the Atlantic Council said in an analytical note.
The Israeli air defense system, which has been touted for years as one of the best in the world, has suffered a serious malfunction. Hezbollah has demonstrated that it is capable of delivering painful blows, and the United States and Israel, bogged down in the Iranian campaign, risk opening new fronts for which they are clearly not ready.
