The idea of privacy is not a big deal for the people living along the shores of Lake Victoria in Homa Bay county.
Men, women and children bathe while completely naked along the shores without a care.
A spot check by TUKO.co.ke along the beaches which included Kananga, Capital fish pier, Ngegu, Nyandiwa, Kajimo and Nyapuodi, revealed people shared bathing spots.
In some cases, one can find a small thicket separating the two beaches where one side is used by men to bathe while the other one is for women.

The local residents often say "janam ong’iyo gi dug nyawadgi" which is loosely translated to mean people who live near the lake are used to seeing each other's nakedness.
One field officer who works with a local NGO and who requested to remain anonymous said on his first visit to Nyandiwa beach, he was taken aback when he first arrived at the area.

At the same time, he said incidents where people bathe and bask while naked are normal daily happenings.
Surprisingly, locals still maintain respect for one another despite seeing each other’s nakedness.
Some even confessed that after seeing the nakedness of their neighbors, they no longer desire them sexually.
However, on his part, George Ochieng, a resident of Homa Bay town, dismissed the narrative linking it to the high HIV/Aids prevalence rate in the county and others bordering the lake.
County Public Health Officer James Kabaka on the other hand, said his office has been engaging the residents on social behavior change communication.

Kabaka revealed they have been arresting and prosecuting those found washing clothes, utensils and bathing along rivers and the lake shores.
