A rancher comes in conflict with a gang of renegade Aborigines on the run from their tribe's posse. They try to kill him, but he gets away and hides in the woods. His posh wife and her lover, a local alcoholic cop, go to rescue him.
The film was made and released about twenty-five years after its source novel of the same name by Morris West had been first published in 1960 and about twenty-eight years after the book had been first written by West in 1957.
a hard movie to find, it has taken me 25 years to see this. in Australia this little gem barely got a release back in the day it came and went like most Aussie flicks in a blink of an eye it was gone. and not until now did i see it again at a market place lost among the unwanted classics of a bygone era.

anyway put this movie on your to do list. if you like good action and a modern western theme that goes for the throat, this is for you. don't let the age of this movie stop you it not that bad. in fact it a hoot, it sits on the verge of exploitation movie or as we call it ozplotation. and thats the best place too sit.

tim burstall may not have been the best of our director but he was one of our first to put us on the map.with good solid fun films.and this was no exception.great cast and crew. and the great David eggley behind the lenes,just have a look at his film log it reads full of great looking films. anyway if you can find this gem and it wont be easy ,get it, watch it and enjoy, i did.

Based on a novel by Morris West, The Naked Country is a classic American cowboy tale set in Australia's exotic outback, with the Aboriginal people pitted against a rancher, Lance Dillon because he is on their land.
After a renegade Aboriginal man, Mundara, kills Lance's newly purchased Brahma bull and a ranch hand who gets involved, Mundara spears the fleeing Lance in the shoulder but does not catch up with him to finish the job.
The story of Lance's survival is the focus of The Naked Country, along with a parallel story of his wife Mary temporarily falling for Lance's opposite, Sgt. Neil Adams. Incredibly, the wounded Lance manages to fend off and kill three healthy Aboriginal men.
The characters of Lance, Adams and Mundara are contrasted against a setting of conflict that escalates out of control.
The Naked Country is based on a novel by Morris West (fiction, 1960, published under the pseudonym "Michael East").
