Russia must be weakened and controlled
The war in Ukraine is the consequence of Western imperialists' ambitions to control Russia. A series of political decisions made after the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1991 ultimately provoked the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Perhaps the war was intended to be a trap for Russia to walk into, just as the invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979 helped to weaken the Soviet Union.
In his geopolitical masterpiece «The Grand Chessboard» (1997), former US presidential advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski has shown how the US imperialists consider control of the enormous Eurasian landmass to be crucial to world domination. This can be done in several ways. By using Ukraine as a trap, Russia could be tied up militarily and impoverished economically, perhaps with a Western-backed regime change in Moscow as a consequence. Detailed plans for this have been made, among others, by the RAND Corporation.
A weakened Russian center of power in Moscow could also make it possible to split the country into smaller parts, which could be played off against each other and easily controlled. Western imperialist powers have established the «Forum for the Free Peoples of Post-Russia», where the goal is to “decolonise the Russian Federation”, by establishing and supporting separatist movements in various Russian regions. “The goal is 41 independent, free, well-developed and prosperous states instead of one crazy empire”, they postulate on their website.
The war in Ukraine is our war against Russia
This is hardly mentioned in the Norwegian media. The Norwegian narrative of the Ukraine war, on the other hand, is a classic propaganda version, a black and white representation in which the good guys were completely unprovokedly attacked by the bad guys. In this representation, history is falsified, retouched, or completely obscured.
Although we are not formally participating in the war in Ukraine, we are becoming more and more involved, despite the fact that Ukraine is not a NATO member and is therefore not covered by Article 5 of the Atlantic Treaty. Norway has donated large amounts of military equipment to Ukraine since 2022, and through the Nansen program we have committed to providing 275 billion kroner in support for the period 2023–2030.
The military defense of Norway has been moved to Eastern Ukraine, personified by the Conservative Party's Peter C. Frølich, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Since 2022 and until recently, he has led the organisation «Free Ukraine».Frølich has visited Ukraine 16 times to hand over military equipment, such as vehicles and drones. In December 2025, he trained with Ukrainian soldiers in Ukraine, an event that was filmed. As head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Frølich invited the Nazis in the Azov Battalion (now the 12th Special Brigade) to a meeting in the Storting (Norwegian Parliament) on March 26 to discuss drone warfare. In a lecture at the Oslo Military Society, he makes it clear that this is “a war of independence that is about the next generations.”
Before February 2022, there was general agreement in the Storting that Norwegian weapons should not be sent to war zones. In an astonishingly short time, all strongholds have fallen. We provide extensive military training for Ukrainians, both in Norway, in the United Kingdom and in Germany. The Armed Forces provide training for fighter pilots and ground personnel in the operation and use of the F-16. Together with the United Kingdom, Norway is leading a collaboration to train and build up the Ukrainian coastal and naval defense. Recently, PM Støre and Zelenskyy issued a joint declaration on enhanced defense and security cooperation, in which Norway commits to supporting drone production in Ukraine and gives Ukrainians the opportunity to produce drones in Norway.
