The Magic Leap Enters The World Of Business

The first time we reviewed the Magic Leap headset for entertainment in 2018, it seemed like a huge leap forward in AR. It was slim, light, and attractive solution in the world of mixed reality headsets. The device has the potential for incredible end-user experiences. Magic Leap's most popular product was unable to be a hit, similar to similar products like Google Glass.

For whatever reason - perhaps a lack of proper marketing, or a higher-than-affordable price tag, the Magic Leap One headset just didn't get the hype that it wanted (or deserved). Magic Leap isn't giving up on AR at this point this is a great news for AR enthusiasts. After failing in the consumer market Magic Leap is now focusing on the business sector.

The New Generation of Augmented Reality

The new products coming out for Magic Leap Enterprise Suite. Magic Leap Enterprise Suite will specifically target the business landscape which includes the healthcare sector. It has been proven that the healthcare industry may be among the leading adopters of new virtual and augmented reality tools especially as telehealth gets more common.

The enterprise suite from Magic Leap will enable modern employees to utilize technologies such as spatial computing to learn new skills, manage data and interact in a new environment that uses 3D-based visualisation. Magic Leap believes that focusing on business environments and not the consumer market, can assist in recovering from its poor reception to its Magic Leap One Creator Edition of entertainment equipment. Rony Abovitz was the chief executive officer at Magic Leap and he expected the headsets to be sold at a rate of one million in their first year.

The Florida company wasn't content to just wait for it to happen - they had raised $3.13billion of venture capital. Unfortunately, the company only managed to sell a total of about 6,000 headsets in the initial six months.

A New Chapter in Spatial Computing

Magic Leap's VR/AR technology, while pleasant, unique and immersive but it wasn't a hit with consumers the way the company had anticipated. Omar Khan says there is plenty of time to let Magic Leap get a jump over its competitors in VR/AR. The move to business is a sign of the beginning of a new era for Magic Leap and the spatial computing market. Magic Leap even believes that the new strategy will lead to significant business possibilities for its customers.

While the decision to focus on the business market can lead to new opportunities for Magic Leap, it's also worthwhile to consider that it puts Magic Leap directly in competition with some major brands. Microsoft and Google have both developed AR applications for the corporate market. There could magic leap for a rival such as Magic Leap to sweep in and take a piece of market. From healthcare to banking and investment, a variety of industries have demonstrated that they are more responsive to AR.
