The film tells the story of Brian (Graham Chapman), a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd and truly hilarious circumstances providing ample opportunity for the entire ensemble to shine in multiple roles as they mock everyone and everything from ex lepers, Pontius Pilate and the art of haggling to crazy prophets, Roman centurions and crucifixion.

I've watched this several times and though it is really Python, I can't understand why so many think it better than Holy Grail or The Meaning of Life which I think are outstanding. I have rewatched it because I keep trying to understand.

If "Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail" did not exist, "Life of Brian" would perhaps be the greatest of the Monty Python films. This one is extremely well written, with pithy, witty, cutting sarcasm and satirical scenes poking fun at the historical and centextual ancient Judea about the time B. C. became A. D. Some people are offended by what they consider to be "blasphemy", but I think it's absolutely brilliant the research that went into the cultural and historical context, and how life under the Romans wasn't so bad ("what have the Romans ever done for us?") and how ready everyone is to follow a messiah ("I should know, I've followed a few!"). The sermon on the mount is the only time the big J is referenced in the film, and it's hilarious that the people in the back of the crowd can't make out what he says. "Blessed are the cheese makers", and "blessed are the Greek". I love the stoning scene and thoroughly enjoy it when people start following Brian after he preaches a bit to escape the Romans (because he wrote "Romans go home all over a wall"). His mother (Terry Jones), is great: "He's not the messiah! He's a very naughty boy!). The reference to resistance organizations (the Judean People's Front and the People's Front of Judea) are brilliant allegorical references to resistance groups in the Middle East today, and the fact that they don't work together works as a hilarious metaphor of how things never go quite the way you want them. Brian gets crucified in the end, but is reassured that you should "Always look on the bright side of Life", and I think the Life of Brian is great!

This is a very fun and funny movie. It's not for young kids or even teens. Monty Python is always great in my opinion. If you like Graham Chapman. He's everywhere! But " don't follow my advice" u don't have to follow anybody" lol . see for yourself.

There are a few good bits in this movie --the misunderstanding Jesus from afar, the Roman guard correcting Brian's Latin, the competing doomsday prophets spouting strange predictions-- but the momentum doesn't hold. Some gags are overworked and tiresome, like the persistent knocking/hiding gag, the nagging mother motif, the musical number on the crucifix. We watched it more for the reputation but wouldn't bother again. M.P. shined best in short sketches, and this movie doesn't have enough good ones tied together.

hilarious movie. The funniest thing is that most of the situations are similar to the present day ones. The jokes are still valid today. Very funny. Maybe their best one.

The first episode broadcast presented a surreal mix of violence, TV commercial and interview programme parodies, bizarre cut-out animations, and a shout-out to titans of modern art - all linked by pigs.
In the show's second series the Pythons were even more confident and daring than in their first, as evident in both the tightness of the editing and the breadth of their material - thus avoiding the "sophomore jinx."
In December 1971 the Pythons began recording their third BBC series, pushing themselves with more creative narrative development and more surreal characters (and, thanks to improved BBC budgets, more ambitious location shoots). The third series also marked the first Python episode in which a single story ("The Cycling Tour") took up the entire half-hour.

That put SPAM back in the national pantry, launched cross-dressing as a national craze, and made Rene Descartes a household name. Now it's back in its original order β€” all the episodes of the premiere season...as if that had any empirical value whatsoever.

This documentary, featuring new interviews with the Pythons and home-movie glimpses of fledging Python-mania, follows the troupe's long and winding road to the States, acknowledging the unsung heroes in the Python story who helped bring Monty Python, said to be too crazy and too British to become a success in America.
"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" True enough. But then again, no one expects a Ministry of Silly Walks, a semaphore version of 'Wuthering Heights', or a Vigilante Bishop, either. But Monty Python's chief weapon is surprise. And silliness. Their two weapons are surprise and silliness. And men in drag. Their three weapons are surprise, silliness and men in drag. And bizarre animation. Their four chief weapons...oh, bloody hell."
