'The Last of Us' Season 2 Cast Announced: New Faces and Returning Favorites

HBO has officially unveiled the cast for The Last of Us Season 2, and fans of the hit post-apocalyptic series have plenty to be excited about. Following the massive success of the first season, which earned critical acclaim and multiple Emmy Awards, the show is gearing up to adapt the events of The Last of Us Part II, the acclaimed 2020 video game.

New Additions to the Cast

The biggest news is the casting of Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Dopesick) as Abby Anderson, a pivotal and controversial character from the sequel. Dever, who was previously rumored for the role, has officially joined the series, bringing her intense dramatic chops to the vengeful ex-Firefly.

Additionally, Young Mazino (Beef) has been cast as Jesse, a skilled fighter and member of the Jackson community. Meanwhile, Isabela Merced (Madame Web, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) will play Dina, Ellie’s love interest and a key figure in her journey.

Returning Stars

Of course, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie, respectively. Their dynamic was the heart of Season 1, and their performances will continue to drive the emotionally charged narrative. Other returning cast members include Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria.

What to Expect in Season 2

While HBO has kept plot details under wraps, Season 2 is expected to delve into the darker, more complex themes of The Last of Us Part II, including revenge, trauma, and moral ambiguity. Filming is set to begin later this year, with a likely premiere in late 2025 or early 2026.
