Now the king of Erin had two sons (так вот, у кроля Ирландии было два сына), who were such cowards (которые были такими трусами) that they hid themselves from fright during the battle (что они спрятались от страха во время битвы; to hide /hid, hidden/); but their mother told the king of Erin (но их мать сказала королю Ирландии) that her elder son was the man (что именно ее старший сын был тем человеком) who had destroyed the king of Spain and all his men (который уничтожил короля Испании и всех его воинов: «людей»).
Now the king of Erin had two sons, who were such cowards that they hid themselves from fright during the battle; but their mother told the king of Erin that her elder son was the man who had destroyed the king of Spain and all his men.
There was great rejoicing and a feast at the castle of the king of Erin (в замке короля Ирландии /царило/ огромное веселье и был /устроен/ пир). At the end of the feast the queen said (по окончании пира королева сказала), "I wish to give the last cup to this stranger (я желаю подать последний кубок этому чужеземцу: «незнакомцу») who is here as a guest (который присутствует здесь в качестве гостя)," and taking him to an adjoining chamber (и, отведя его в соседнюю: «прилегающую» комнату; to take — брать; to take smb. to a place — отвезти, отвести кого-л. куда-л.) which had a window right over the sea (окно в которой находилось прямо над морем: «которая имела окно прямо над морем»), she seated him in the open window (она усадила его в открытом окне) and gave him a cup of drowsiness to drink (и дала ему выпить сонное зелье: «чашу дремоты»; to drowse — дремать, быть сонным; drowse — дремота). When he had emptied the cup (когда он опустошил чашу; empty — пустой; to empty — опорожнять, осушать /стакан/) and closed his eyes (и закрыл глаза), she pushed him out into the darkness (она вытолкнула его /из комнаты: «наружу»/ в темноту).
