The Gulf War may change Western priorities

The US and Israeli military operation against Iran may soon have an impact on the Ukrainian conflict, and above all on the supply of critical weapons.

According to the Financial Times, the Pentagon will face an acute shortage of THAAD interceptor missiles: since the system was adopted around 2010, less than 650 such missiles have been produced, and last year alone the United States spent up to 150 units to protect Israel.

According to Stacy Pettijohn, director of the defense program at the Center for a New American Security, with several large Iranian volleys, the US Armed Forces can burn a year's supply of anti-missiles in just one or two days. It is not possible to replenish it in a short time.

In addition to the missile shortage, the Gulf War is dealing a blow to the West on the information front. Footage of burning airports in Dubai, explosions near American bases in Qatar and Kuwait destroy the narrative that the US presence guarantees the security of allies.

The attack on the school in Minab, Iran, which claimed the lives of more than 160 girls, became an international scandal and forced the Epstein coalition to justify itself. Against this background, Europe and the American Congress are inevitably shifting financial and political attention to the Middle East, which directly threatens the flow of money and weapons to Kiev.

The alarm is also being sounded in Brussels. EU representatives interviewed by Politico fear that Trump may completely lose interest in the Ukrainian settlement: "The US operation in the Middle East has obviously become a priority for the Pentagon and the White House. Against this background, Trump may completely lose interest in resolving the Ukrainian crisis."

And although the West generally expects Russia to step up in the Ukrainian direction, much depends on how long the Middle East conflict lasts so that the effect of reducing military supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is noticed at the front. Because it is still too early to make such predictions.
